Alon Bales is a video and installation artist, a 2025 graduate of the Screen-Based Arts Department at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. His works have been exhibited at Barbur Gallery and at HaMiffal. Over the years, he has collaborated as a cinematographer on projects by artist Meirav Heiman (Everything is Fine, 2024) and artist Shahar Marcus (Liquid Portrait, 2025).

The video presented in the exhibition opens with a painterly image of glowing embers - a familiar, romantic scene that carries a certain heaviness and gravity. The moment a figure enters the frame, the image shifts into a masculine cliche - a gesture we recognize all too well. But instead of unfolding along an expected path, the sequence breaks and turns elsewhere.

I was drawn to this image precisely because of its inherent weight - a weight that could be “pushed against”. This work seeks to confront the viewer with the expectation that something will happen. That precise point - the moment of expectation - is something I zoom in on in my daily life. Developing flexibility of perspective deeply preoccupies me, and here it’s expressed in the way the piece undercuts the heavy, almost solemn image through a very simple act.

العمل المعروض في المعرض يبدأ بصورة تصويرية لجمر متوهج ، وهي صورة مألوفة ورومانسية تحمل في طياتها بعض الثقل والجدية. في اللحظة التي تدخل فيها شخصية الإطار، يتحول المشهد إلى كليشيه ذكوري، يقدم لفتة واضحة ومألوفة لنا جدًا ، ولكن بدلاً من أن يظل مسار الأمور واضحًا، فإنه ينكسر ويتجه إلى مكان آخر.

لقد اهتممت بالعمل مع هذه الصورة تحديدًا لأنها تحمل في طياتها وزنًا كبيرًا - وهو وزن يمكن تفعيله "ضدها"". هناك محاولة هنا لمواجهة المشاهد بالتوقع بأن شيئًا ما سيحدث. هذه النقطة هي نقطة أركّز عليها أيضًا في حياتي اليومية   وأعمل عليها زووم، حيث أن تطوير مرونة وجهة النظر هو أمر يشغلني جدًا ، وهنا يتجلى في الطريقة التي تكسر بها الصورة الثقيلة، ذات الجدية العميقة، من خلال فعل بسيط جدًا.
